INTERNAL AWARENESS
Creating Systems
A process for behavior change through organized repetition.
Our behavior follows established pathways of feelings, thoughts, and actions.
These pathways are like grooves in record playing the songs of our lives.
It takes a lot of effort to learn a new song. You must play it over and over.
The process for creating new pathways for behavior change is always the same.
A system organizes the repetition necessary to create behavior change.
Meditation is an example of a system for letting go of fear.
Creating new pathways happens through repetition.
It doesn’t matter if the new pathways are for language learning, meditation, journaling, or exercise.
It’s important to understand that much of human behavior (feelings, thoughts, and actions) aren’t decisions. They are pathways. The decision you can make is build a new pathway through repeated practice.
Why won’t my mentor stop speaking English to me?
Speaking English isn’t a decision.
It’s an established pathway.
A system organizes the repeated practice of letting go of English.
Without a system your mentor will keep speaking English.
Why am I afraid of speaking my language?
Being afraid isn’t a decision.
It’s an established pathway.
A system organizes the repeated practice of letting go of fear.
Without a system you will continue to be afraid.
